Here at Little Skye, we have developed a true and long standing addiction to PePe boots and shoes.  We just can’t get enough of them.  Every season, a year ahead of time, I spend days on end looking at color, style, and sole options, and finally after working with the talented women in Italy who create PePe shoes and boots, send in our requests.  Six months later, on our most exciting day of the season, our shipment arrives and we open the lovely boxes to see our creations.

When these two pairs arrived, I literally gasped.  They are so beautiful in person – the color, the leather, the style – just everything about them.  Evelyn loved the orange and pink ones so much that she wore them for days with her summer dresses, even in the house.  The antique gold ones are just so perfectly versatile.  They go with everything, and are a stylish change from black, grey and brown.

PePe ballet flats are also always a big hit with girls of all ages.  They love the soft, flexible sole and comfortable fit.  This season, the wear-with-anything star print and multicolor sparkle flats are the favorites.

You can find over 30 styles and colors of PePe shoes and boots at Little Skye, the largest retailer of PePe in the US.

Welcome to our blog! We wanted to use our first post to tell you a little about us.

I founded Little Skye in 2008.  After teaching high school English for 14 years, I had my first daughter and wanted to spend as much time with her as possible.  So I started Little Skye children’s boutique as a business I could do from home, and one that would also could feed my ever-growing passion for children’s clothing.  It just truly makes me happy to see one of my daughters looking incredibly adorable in an outfit. I always laugh when I’m talking with someone and I say “I can’t wait to get my Paper Wings” or whatever I am waiting to get for Evie or my baby Colette.  As if it were for me.  Really, in a lot of ways it is!

Evelyn Skye most recently:

My vision for the store was to have every outfit photographed on a child.  Since I wasn’t able to try an outfit on my daughter at an online store, I liked as a customer being able to see what it looked like on a little girl.  I also wanted to offer moms beautiful, age appropriate clothing that embraced the innocence and fun of childhood.

Two years later, I was lucky enough to bring Jessica into the business.  I couldn’t have imagined finding someone else who works the same way I do, who has the same style and ideas about what a business should be, who is as dedicated to Little Skye as I am, and who is just all around the best friend a person could hope to have.  But I found her in Jessica, who is now the general manager and part owner of Little Skye, which is based in Cerritos, CA (I live in Brooklyn).  She takes care of the daily operations with the rest of our fantastic team at our warehouse there.   Here are some pictures of our sweet children together.   I’d post a picture of Jessica and I but alas there is no such thing.  We have to fix that next time I visit CA!

Our big kids: Lyndsay, Evie and Ethan:

Little Skye has evolved with my original vision for it.  We carefully select photographers who have a natural aesthetic and who photograph children candidly, outdoors where they play.  We even do a lot of photography ourselves with our own daughters modeling (with a few small bribes, they are mostly agreeable).

Our favorite part of photo shoots is the styling.  We spend probably far too much time planning outfit combinations and thinking of shoes for PePe to make us that will match our clothing.  To fuel our creative fire, we will for fall 12 be bringing to the site a (we think) very exciting new way of shopping for outfit combinations.  Stay tuned for a post about that!

Now, four years later, I remain the creative director and head buyer for Little Skye, I teach future teachers at Teachers College, and I take care of my now two beautiful daughters, Evelyn Skye (after whom Little Skye is named) and Colette Michaela (my little 8 month old baby).  Ironically, Jessica and I were pregnant at the same time, and baby Samuel was born just a few months after Colette.  So as you can imagine, we are busy expanding the baby clothing and gift section at Little Skye.

Sam and Colette, who we think will someday make a really cute couple:

Sweet baby Colette:

One of our greatest honors was when a little over a year ago, we were asked to manage the Oilily USA web shop.  Oilily has always been one of our favorite brands – for its artistry, originality and joyful design.   Now we get to be surrounded daily by Oilily in all its wonder.

When it comes to style, we naturally drift toward children’s clothing and shoes that are comfortable and have a classic, artistic and/or vintage appeal.  We love to mix our prairie boots and cowboy boots with feminine floral dresses, and we have a weakness for liberty prints, really cool jeans, and beautiful coats.

When it comes to business, we are focused on detail and customer service.  We have met so many wonderful women through Little Skye – customers who have become friends who we are eternally grateful to have come to know.  Since e-commerce is always changing, we want to not only keep up with the changes but also to always offer our customers something innovative to make the shopping experience more fun and easy.  We are working moms, and we know how time disappears when you have kids.  We hope our pictures make you happy!
